Ten Things that Made Us Say Yay! In 2012
Posted by Miz Kp on Dec 31, 2012 in Blog | 7 commentsThe end of 2012 is finally here. Before we welcome 2013, I need to pause and reflect on some of the events that made us break out the pom poms for Angel in 2012. It means a lot to me to be able to share them all with you. Here you go:
1. We were able to get Angel ten hours of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) and additional speech therapy outside of school. This came after some resistance from out school district but they finally did right by him.
2. We made it through the “Turning 5″ process in one piece. After countless meetings, phone calls, open houses, tours, applications, and a CBST deferral, Angel was approved to attend a non-public school.
3. Angel graduated from preschool.
4. Angel had a fun summer.
5. Angel celebrated his fifth birthday.
6. Angel started kindergarten at a great school.
7. Angel went to see his first live Broadway performance of The Lion King. He loved it.
8. Angel lost his first tooth. We have no idea where it is but it meant that he is becoming a big boy.
9. Angel can use the potty for number 1 without prompting or reinforcers. Number 2 is a work in process.
10. Angel can use words like “please,” “help me,” and some short sentences in context.
I look forward to an even longer list as we go through 2013. Happy New Year!
What made you say YAY! in 2012? Please share. I look forward to hearing from you.
Before you go, check out this wonderful photo of Angel that I submitted to Autism Shines.

Sincerely,

I dont even know where to start. I know when I am not with him I cry internally. Lets just say every time I see him and hear his words, I smile and show happiness. Really, words cannot explain.
Im sooooo proud of Angel. I would have to say he still has great parents loving and caring for him.
Congrats to Angel and his fantastic parents. I read your blogs and they make me smile so much. My son who is also 5 has had an incredible year as well. Here’s to a great 2013:) and many more treasured moments.
I truly believe God has given us these special gifts for a reason.
Thanks for your comment, Franchesca. I am happy to hear that your son also had a good year. May 2013 be a good one for you and for him. Take care.
It’s great to hear that your son has had an incredible year, Franchesca. I have always believed that we have received these special gifts for a reason as well. They are most innocent, most fun, just incredible people all around. Here’s to another year of milestones and accomplishments!
Maybe you’re being a bit too sensitive. The word “retarded” is not a derogatory word. It can be used in a derogatory manner but the word itself is not derogatory and it has a meaning. Maybe if you’d climb off your high horse and grab a dictionary then you’d realize that. Don’t go publicly criticizing people when you don’t really know what you’re talking about. Peace and love.
What makes me say YAY is when I hear new words come from Angel and he does different things. Progress is ongoing and that makes me say YAY ALL DAY!!
